St. Mary’s Parochial School (Model School) –

Hello everybody and hope you all are well after the storm.

We had an exciting when the McCarthy Cup visited our school. Four GAA Officials came too. Unfortunately Eoin Kelly could not come as he had just returned from Boston where he had brought the McCarthy Cup to visit. One of the Official’s name was Mr. Séan Nugent. His grandfather taught in this school many years ago. Mr. Nugent told us the history of the McCarthy Cup and we all got to hold the Cup. They gave us all a signed poster of the team. There are photos on display in the school. We had a banner in our classroom to welcome the cup. The cup was very heavy when we lifted it. Ms. Wallace and Mrs. Brennan held the cup too.

In the Junior room, one of Mrs. Brennan’s hens came to visit on Monday and some of the children got to hold her. She is a brown hen and the picture in last week’s newsletter was taken from Clip Art! The hen was running around the school yard and all the children enjoyed watching her.

Lauren Quigley is a past pupil in our school and is now in Transition Year in the Presentation Secondary School. Lauren came on Wednesday and spent some time in each classroom. She will be coming every Wednesday for the next few months as part of her work experience.

The Red Kettle Theatre Group are visiting next Wednesday and are performing ‘Rory McLory and the story that never ends’ for all children. We are also having a collection of unwanted clothing, etc. next week for Mrs. Quinn’s Charity Shop for the Blind. There is a note about these already sent home.

We have started practicing for the Christmas Play. It is called ‘Silent Night’ and will take place on Thursday 9th of December at the GAA Centre. So please keep that date free.

Mrs. Levie came in to do P.E. with the Senior Room. We played ‘Ladders’ and ‘Crab Football’.

If you have any unwanted phones please send them into our school as we are still collecting them for the Jack and Jill Foundation – there’s a box in Old St Mary’s
